Vbeam
What's keeping you from looking your best? Broken capillaries? Stretch marks? Red acne scars? Rosacea and facial flushing?
All these conditions are treatable with the state-of-the-art Vbeam laser. Treatment with the Vbeam, a pulsed dye laser, is fast and comfortable. It is FDA-approved to treat spider veins, telangiectasias (broken capillaries), red birthmarks, red acne scars, stretch marks and wrinkles. Vbeam is so gentle, it's safe even for a baby or child.
How does the Vbeam Laser work?
The laser delivers an intense but gentle burst of light in long pulses to your skin. This unique, longer pulse delivers laser energy to targeted blood vessels over longer periods of time, resulting in a gentle heating effect and uniform coagulation. The body then absorbs the treated blood vessels during the natural healing process.
The laser has a unique ability to selectively target the blood vessels without adversely affecting the surrounding tissue. It is so safe and effective that it has been used successfully for the treatment of infants as young as a few weeks old. Vbeam protects the skin during the treatment by a dynamic cooling device which sprays a cool liquid onto the skin before each laser pulse, cooling the upper layers of the skin and providing patients with an increased comfort.
Broken Capillaries
Telangiectasias, broken capillaries or facial and nasal spider veins are typically a result of sun damage. These tiny broken veins in the face cause a persistent flushed look and have the visual effect of "aging" the face. They are worsened by heat, alcohol and sun. Skin that is prone to these broken vessels should be treated gently and cared for with mild products. Sunscreens and hats will afford a level of protection that will help maintain your cleared skin during and after treatment.
Leg Spider Veins
Age, pregnancy, and heredity play a large part in the development of varicose and spider veins. Varicose veins are better treated by sclerotherapy or surgical stripping, while small red and purple spider veins are easily and comfortably treated with vascular lasers like Vbeam.
The American Academy of Dermatology states that the new laser technology is more effective for treating small spider veins, while sclerotherapy is best reserved for larger veins. Laser surgery is more comfortable because there are no needles or incisions. When the laser hits the skin, you will only feels a small pinch; your skin is soothed by cooling both before and after the laser, ensuring maximal comfort.
Acne & Red Acne Scars
The "redness" left behind in acne scars is a result of tiny broken capillaries at the site of the healed acne lesion. This redness is more common to "newer" acne scars and is hard to conceal, making the evidence of acne more pronounced, even after it has healed. Lasers which target these broken capillaries cause the small vessels to coagulate and be reabsorbed by the body. This effectively removes the redness.
V-Beam is commonly used for the treatment of red acne scars, stretch marks and keloids, which are thickened scar tissue. The V-Beam laser usually requires 3 to 5 treatments. The treatment is effective, safe and well-tolerated.
There is no down-time for Vbeam laser treatments. Procedures are nearly painless... the laser pulse feels somewhat similar to the light "snap" of a rubber band.
Rosacea
Rosacea (pronounced "roh-ZAY-sha") is a chronic and potentially life-disruptive disorder primarily of the facial skin, often characterized by flare-ups and remissions. Many have observed that it typically begins any time after age 30 as redness on the cheeks, nose, chin or forehead area that may come and go. Over time, the redness becomes ruddier and more persistent, and visible blood vessels may appear. Left untreated, bumps and pimples may develop, and in severe cases the nose may grow swollen and bumpy from excess tissue.
While there is no cure for rosacea and the cause is unknown, medical therapy is available to control or reverse its signs and symptoms. Vascular lasers such as Vbeam have proved to substantially reduce and often eliminate the redness and flushing of rosacea that has ailed many patients.
Dramatic Treatment for Traumatic or Post-Surgical Scars
Raised or hypertrophic scars which are the result of traumatic injury, surgery or radiation therapy are often associated with numerous unpleasant side effects. These include the emotional and psychological effects of the unsightly scar, the occasional feeling of pain, a tingling sensation or an intense itching within the scar itself.
Not only does laser treatment significantly reduce the height and redness of scars, it actually improves the pliability of the scar and alleviates the adverse symptoms. While results vary with the age and severity of the scar, prompt and early treatment increases the likelihood of returning the skin to its normal colour and texture.
A Successful Treatment for Stretch Marks
The options available for the repair of stretch marks were limited until physicians began using the V-Beam™ and observed remarkable results. Like other forms of dermal scarring, stretch marks originating from pregnancy, rapid weight gain, or mechanical stress, respond well to laser treatment. The result is a dramatically improved revision and softening of the skin.
While the VBeam works well for the new and red stretch marks, older white scars may be better treated with the Fraxel or the Mixto lasers. Our doctors will be able to advise you on the appropriate treatment for your condition.
What is the Procedure like? Is there any downtime?
Each treatment takes about half an hour. An anaesthetic cream is applied to the area to ensure maximal comfort. A protective eye shield is put then on for you. Each pulse of laser is delivered with a spray of cool air to protect the outer skin and provide comfort, making the procedure virtually painless. There is no downtime after the treatment- you can apply makeup immediately after if needed and continue with your normal activities.
