Aramis Laser for Acne & Acne Scar
Treat acne at its source.
Aramis laser therapy is an effective way to treat your acne with a shorter treatment cycle and no side effects from powerful drugs, antibiotics, topical creams and lotions. This gentle, safe treatment uses a laser to target overactive sebaceous glands in your skin - the root cause of acne. With the Aramis laser, you don't just treat the symptoms of acne, you treat the source!
How does Aramis Laser Acne therapy work?
The Aramis Laser produces a sub-coagulative thermal injury leading to a temporary alteration in the size and function of the overactive sebaceous gland. This thermal effect kills bacteria and reduces sebum production. Shortly after the first treatment, you will start to see a reduction in the number of acne lesions on your skin. However, for best results, a series of treatments are recommended.
Do I have to have "severe" acne to be a candidate for Aramis Laser Acne treatment?
No. It is a simple outpatient procedure and this treatment can be performed on patients with all grades of severity of acne. Only you can determine how your acne affects you and what steps you are going to take to improve the appearance of your skin. A consultation with your doctor at The Sloane Clinic will help you decide what is most suited for your face.
Can the Aramis Laser also help in minimizing acne scars?
Yes. The Aramis laser has been shown to improve some types of acne scarring. It does this by selectively stimulating the dermis (the tissue lying just below the outer skin) to produce more collagen. The collagen production will then plump up the appearance of acne scars or wrinkles. This new laser can be used to improve stretch marks, acne scars, and wrinkles on any area of the body.
However, with severe acne scarring, Aramis Laser is combined with *subcision for best results. Alternatively, we may suggest the Fraxel or the Mixto Lasers for severe acne scar treatments.
*Subcision is a process involving separating the skin tissue in the affected area from the deeper scar tissue used to treat deep rolling scars left behind by acne or other skin diseases.
What will the Aramis Laser treatment be like?
Depending on the size of the treated area, a session lasts about 30 minutes.
You and the physician will wear protective eyewear during the short laser treatment. The physician will use a small hand piece to deliver the laser pulses to your skin. You will feel a cold probe touch your skin. This contact cooling protects the upper layer of the skin during each laser pulse.
The procedure is comfortable and most patients treated with the laser at The Sloane Clinic tolerate the procedure very well.
What will I look like after my laser treatment? Is there any recovery period?
There are minimal risks to this laser procedure. Mild redness may be seen immediately after the procedure and typically subsides in a few hours. Following your laser treatment, you can apply make-up if needed, and return to normal activities immediately.
How long does the results last?
Treatment with the Aramis laser consists of 2 to 4 weekly treatments (4 to 8 treatments). Visible changes will occur a few weeks after the second treatment. Continued treatment with the Aramis Laser can produce additional improvement and rejuvenation maintenance. Improvements in the skin continue to take place many months after the last treatment!
