Broken Capillaries & Spider Veins

Facial Spider Veins & Broken Capillaries

Unsightly spider veins and red blotches on the face affect millions of people. While they may not be medical emergencies, many of our patients would like to be rid of these unattractive and sometimes embarrassing distractions to their natural beauty. Fortunately, our advanced technologies enable us to safely, easily and effectively treat these broken capillaries or facial spider veins.

There are many reasons why people develop blood vessels on their face. The most common reason for broken capillaries on the face is genetic susceptibility. However, there are environmental factors that contribute to the development of facial capillaries. These include factors that makes one "blush and flush" including sun exposure, spicy foods, hot beverages, alcohol and extremes of weather, such as cold, hot, or windy weather. These are the same exacerbating factors for another common skin condition named rosacea, which not only results in development of blood vessels and general redness on the face but can occasionally result in formation of adult acne.

Effective Laser Treatments

At The Sloane Clinic, we utilize several different lasers and light sources to treat these vessels. The method of treatment is determined by the size, color, and location of the veins. We customize each treatment for every patient. The Vbeam and Gentle Yag lasers (The Iriderm diode laser, Nd:Yag laser and the Quantum SR light source) allow us to tailor the treatment to match the veins in need of eradication.

Today's new light and laser technology delivers precise dosages of energy to each vein, with minimal risk to the skin. During these treatments, light energy is delivered to the targeted vein. The energy is then absorbed by the blood vessels. The heat/energy absorption causes a clogging of the blood vessel. The clogged vessel is then slowly absorbed by the body.

Vbeam

Lasers are the most effective treatment of facial spider veins. The most effective laser for treatment of rosacea and broken capillaries is the pulse dye laser. The V-Beam laser is the most advanced pulse dye laser available. Usually multiple treatments are necessary for improvement of broken capillaries on the face. This laser is extremely safe and can be used without numbing cream as it is equipped with a cooling spray. Broken capillaries can be improved and eradicated anywhere on the face including cheeks, nose, and the chin. The V-Beam laser is designed so that the energy of the laser gets selectively absorbed by the broken capillaries resulting in their eradication.

Gentle Yag

The GentleYAG is FDA cleared to treat all skin types, including tanned skin, and offers unmatched Nd:YAG treatment capabilities in permanent hair reduction, vascular lesions, and wrinkles. The GentleYAG has a 1064nm wavelength, multiple spot sizes and variable pulse durations to treat.
  • Treats All Skin Types - Deep penetration with minimal scattering of laser energy makes GentleYAG ideal for all skin types, especially dark and tanned skin.
  • Vascular Capabilities - Variable pulse durations and multiple spot sizes gives the Gentle YAG leg and facial vein treatment capabilities rivaling pulse dye technology.
  • Powerful - Fluences up to 600 J/cm2 help make the GentleYAG the most powerful Nd:YAG on the market today.
  • Quick Treatments - Up to 10 Hz rep rate for speed and convenience.
  • Epidermal Cooling - Candela's Dynamic Cooling Device technology provides consistent, reproducible epidermal cooling and patient comfort.
  • Multiple Applications - The GentleYAG can also treat other vascular lesions such as hemangiomas and port wine stains, pseudofolliculitis barbae (PFB), and wrinkles.
The Gentle Yag laser effectively treats vascular lesions and leg veins. It is the only laser of its kind patented and FDA cleared for leg vein removal and laser hair removal. The long wavelength of the Gentle Yag laser reaches deeper into the skin, making it ideal for treating leg veins. The laser contracts the leg veins, without bruising usually associated with other leg vein treatments.

The non-invasive laser treatment of leg veins continues to be a source of interest to physicians. Treatment options at this time include sclerotherapy, laser treatment, and intense pulsed light sources. Sclerotherapy has been the gold standard for treatment of leg veins. However, the Gentle Yag adds another dimension to our ability to treat extremely small veins that are too small for injections.

With a comprehensive range of state-of-the-art lasers available, at The Sloane Clinic, we are able to effectively treat veins and capillaries to a high degree of satisfaction. The type of treatment that is most suited for you will be decided by the doctor after an initial consultation and assessment.
